CL hopes hanging on a thread

Galatasaray 3

Man Utd 3

For the umpteenth time in this CL group, United where in the driving seat, with the 3 points in their hands, and basically, messed it up.

Today, we ran into a 2-0 lead within 20 minutes and gave our opponents hope when the free kick given away by Bruno was converted thanks to a poor defensive wall and Onana not reacting quickly enough.

2-1 up at HT and my impression was that we needed another goal to hope for the 3 points. The 3rd goal did arrive thanks to McTominay after an excellent move. Sadly, not even the 2 goal cushion was enough today as we allowed Galatasaray to crawl back to 3-3.

Today I believe that United played reasonably well and were let down by individual mistakes. Onana will be the main focus of criticism and it is hard to defend his two goals conceded from free kicks. In the greater scheme of things, a draw away in Turkey would have been acceptable as we should have won our home matches. We have been poor in managing the match in all group stage matches and this is the end result.

As things stand, we need to beat Bayern in the last match and hope that the other match in the group ends in a draw. If I have to be completely honest, at this stage, I’d rather end 4th in the group than 3rd as we need to focus more on the domestic front than an eventual Europa League…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
