Everton 0
Man Utd 3
Just over 2 minutes in and Dalot sends in a cross from the right and Garnacho scores a worldie! A goal that will be remembered for years to come and not only amongst United fans. The way he actually ran back and coordinated his acrobat scissors-kick was pure magic. Let us hope he has a few more in store this season! There was a whole match to play yet, and after we recovered from the euphoria, we had to witness another drab half of football from United. We never created another chance till HT and had Everton had someone who could actually score, they would have been level, if not ahead by HT.
In the second half, with Everton starting to tire out, we started constructing something and on 56 minutes, Martial in one of his rare initiatives down the middle, was brought down. The ref initially handed him a yellow for simulation but after checking VAR, the penalty was awarded and the yellow card withdrawn. If I have to be completely honest, I had a bit of a question as to whether Martial did drag his leg into the challenge a wee bit or not. It went our way this time round and Rashford stepped up to make it 2-0 (and hopefully boost his confidence). 2-0 and it was game over.
Martial added a third to seal the biggest away win of the season and we kept another clean sheet. The performance was not the best but there were a few positives to take home. Mainoo’s debut was class – the boy should start more matches and at times, he was basically keeping us at 1-0 up all by himself. That Garnacho goal, of course, is the stuff we dream about. A word about Pellistri. In a utopian world, where you only start a football match on merit, there is no way, no way, that Rashford should start ahead of Pellistri! The boy creates something when he comes on and deserves a few games. Marcus can come on as a sub and if he regains his confidence he will be able to regain his place. On current form, Pellistri should start.
A critical game on Wednesday in Turkey for United and only a win will do. Anything else and we will be out of the CL last 16. ETH better fire his boys up, and pick the best in form players to do a job for him. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
