Bruno sent off as United crash again

Wolves 2

Man Utd 0

United suffered another crushing defeat as Ruben Amorim continues with his on and off-the-field troubles as the new head coach of our beloved red devils. It was another opaque and toothless display by the team picked by Amorim. ETH’s style of possession and no incisiveness is proving hard to wash off. Some supporters are arguing that the style that Amorim is trying to impose does not suit this group of players as they were brought in by ETH. My response is that if they were indeed picked up by ETH (there is always that question of how much a manager/head coach influences recruitment, especially at United) – well, that did not really go well did it!

Back to this match, the first half went by rather painfully with a Dalot curler from outside the box being the only shot on goal I can recall. At the beginning of the second half, Bruno was shown a second yellow for a late tackle and he was off. Was it stupid of Bruno – yes. Was is a tackle worthy of a second yellow – NEVER! The level of refereeing in the EPL has not improved over the years. It remains, to this day, abysmal. An so is the implementation of VAR!

But we cannot really blame the refs for our woes. Amorim tried some tactical changes but you cannot plan for an incompetent keeper who concedes directly from a corner. It was probably a foul, agreed, but Onana should be bulldozing anything in front of him to get to the ball. At 1-0 down we tried to recover and had a couple of chances but overall we are very weak physically and mentally – as sad as this sounds!

The second goal does not matter much – we were trying to get the equaliser and got caught on the counter in the dying seconds. It happens. What is worrying is that individually all players seem out of form. Mainoo and Martinez come to mind but there are others – Mazraoui’s form has also dipped as has Garnacho’s and the only United player who seems alive is Amad.

It can become worse as the next matches are difficult and we can get involved in a relegation battle if we lose the last match of 2024 and the first one of 2025. It is hard to look forward to 2025 at this particular moment but the manager needs all the support he can get because he needs it…Numquam Moribimur!
