Man Utd 0
Bournemouth 3
Amorim’s United simply failed to get into gear today and we were soundly beaten 3-0 at OT. Yet another defeat that suggests the away win in the derby was just a ray of sunshine during a storm. This united team is struggling to defend set plays – and we have conceded a ridiculous amount of goals from such positions this season. The keeper does not help, in my honest opinion, as Onana continues to not convince me. So it was not a surprise when a free kick conceded by the inadequate Malacia was headed in by the Bournemouth centre half.
United tried to react and had the best spell before HT when we should have equalised as Bruno came close a couple of times. What is noticeable is that United have 2 strikers who very rarely have shots at goal. Strikers are brought in to supply the goals and I continue saying that we have 2 strikers who collectively will not get the tally that we need from just one striker. This United team badly needs a goal scorer as goals change games. The second goal by Bournemouth, in fact, killed us off. Mazraoiu, after an excellent start to the United career is having a dodgy spell and he gave away a silly penalty. 20- down, we lost concentration and conceded a 3rd. Game over.
Bruno Amorim is discovering how taking over the toughest job in the world feels. Some of the players he inherited are simply not good enough. I would go as far as saying that out of the current group, I would only keep a handful.
Amorim needs a few wins to release the mounting pressure. Some supporters expected miracles and are already suggesting that Amorim is not up to it…which is ridiculous, of course. Having said that, he was brought in to improve the situation, and despite some improved performances, we are still toothless up front and concede too many simple goals.
Let us hope that the situation improves, quickly, as this season seems to be over before the end of the calendar year…Numquam Moribimur.
