Man Utd 3
A much needed win, 3 points and 3 goals away from home, a clean sheet. Perfect day out right? Well, this is not going to be a moan, not by any stretch of the imagination. A win, is a win.
There was a turning point though in this match, and I do not shy away from telling it as it is…from my point of view, of course!
The turning point was Onana saving a penalty on 33 minutes. Dalot had given a pen away after being tormented for 30 minutes by a debutant teenager and confirming that he is not a full back. Wing back, perhaps, but to be a ‘full’ back you need to be able to defend! Up till then, we had been pretty average once again, one has to say, and Soton were having a decent go at us.
10 minutes after the penalty save, United had a two goal lead, Soton never recovered and did not have a shot in goal and the match was done and dusted. De Ligt headed in his first United goal from a Bruno cross and minutes later, Rashford’s shot from the edge of the box squeezed into the right corner. Let’s hope this gives the boy the much needed confidence, and a run of decent form (and a different hair dye perhaps!)
United controlled the second half and some supporters would have got frustrated with the lack of determination to get more goals. I didn’t, because I have now accepted that this is how ETHs teams play. We did get the third in injury time with Garnacho who fired in from close range to balance out the defeat (in terms of GD) before the international break.
Soton had to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men after a clear red card for a foul on Garnacho who had come on for Rashford. In my book, booing an opposing player after getting clattered and accusing him of getting your team’s defender sent off shows that you either go to watch footy and do not have a clue, ot that you’re a bit retarded!
We need to build on this win with another Vs Barnsley on Tuesday night…Numquam Moribimur.
