Changes were expected as ETH started the rotation process against a poor Barnsley side. Early exchanges were pretty balanced but once Rashford raced through and gave us the lead, there was only one way this match was going. Antony won a pen and converted it himself and Garnacho toe poked the third in on the stroke of HT. Ugarte, on his first start, got stuck in and literally started shedding blood for the team from the very start.
The match was done and dusted at HT but United continued scoring goals in the second half as the Barnsley players were clearly overwhelmed.
After the break, Garnacho and Rashford added another 2 goals to make it 5 and Eriksen completed the rout with 2 goals in the last minutes. An emphatic win against a poor side. There were some positive signs but anyone making sweeping statements like Rashford is back and the team is on form needs to hold their horses a bit. We need to see the progress on Saturday when we take on Crystal Palace in a match that I would classify as winnable…Numquam Moribimur.
