United were the better team during much of the first half and should have been ahead. A stone-wall penalty was astonishingly denied by VAR. If a team of people are reviewing this and all agreed that that was not a penalty, all of them should be sacked!

Bruno Fernandes missed a sitter when he headed high when all alone in front of the Spurs keeper. The gut feeling was that these chances will come back to haunt us and it very nearly happened when Spurs twice hit the woodwork towards the end of the first half.

Rashford showed glimpses, but was mostly ineffective and Antony, as usual, was missing the end product. The first half display by our midfield was better than last week but there was still so much room for improvement.

We needed to be more incisive in the second half. Instead, Spurs came at us, were the better team and emerged worthy winners with two second half goals. 4 minutes in the second half Spurs went ahead as Shaw was caught in lala land and allowed acres of space to the Spurs wide player to put in a dangerous cross, to which Sarr reacted and it was 0-1. We did have a reaction of sorts. The ineffective Antony was unlucky when his curler hit the post and Casemiro’s header was brilliantly tipped over by the impressive Spurs keeper.

Spurs added another late on but it did not really matter at that stage as it was evident we did not have the legs and hunger to come back.

Overall, we were, again, very average. Our midfield is being overrun, outmuscled and looking lead footed and this is the main problem. Mount still looks like an over hyped average buy to me and Casemiro and Bruno need to return from their holidays.

Unless ETH gets hold of the situation he risks losing the trust of the United faithful. I believe he will fix this, especially if we get a defensive midfielder, but things need to change, quickly.
