Man Utd 1 Wolves 0
United started the season with a win. But it was not pleasant to the eye. Our first half was poor. We never tested the Wolves keeper properly and Rashford, Antony and Garnacho never got into the game. The only positive I could get from that first is that we managed to track back quickly when Wolves went forward with purpose every time they got possession.
One would have expected us to set about the second half with more purpose. It did not happen. We eventually got a winner from a Varane header but let’s call a spade a spade, Wolves were the better team and should probably have had a penalty when Onana, who otherwise had a solid game, misjudged his venturing for a cross and clattered into the Wolves player.
Positives from this game is that our defence held firm. But fitness wise we were poor and our midfield and attack seemed too slow. We never created great chances and when Wolves broke forward we seemed unable to block them.
There will be a lot of criticism for today’s display but I trust that ETH will fix this. I still have to be convinced that Mount is a better player than Eriksen but it’s only the first match and we have to wait for the next 8-10 matches to make a serious assessment of where we are. Personally, I think Rashford as striker is a big no no.
In the meantime, it’s 3 point, a clean sheet, and a 3/10 performance….Numquam Moribumur!
