Man Utd 5
Leicester City 2
I’ve been observing post by United fans over the last 48 hours and it always amazes how easily some people get carried away. RVN’s debut as interim manager – he will be around for a few weeks – went well. United scored 5 and showed some attacking flair, true, but Leicester player their second string and we were pretty much in full force – what did everyone expect? In some ways, Leicester were similar to Barnsley a few weeks ago so feet firmly on the ground I say!
There will always be conspiracy theories about players not giving their all and now dressing room and training grounds incidents are coming out. Make of these what you want – the one thing I am pretty sure about is that our beloved club has become a typical example of player power – managers stand no chance if they rock the boat too much. And unless INEOS can tackle that, the guy with the toughest job in the world will be thrown under the bus as well when the time comes!
Back to the match – Casemiro, with a scorcher, gave us the early lead and Garnacho made it 2-0 on the half hour. Leicester exposed some of our fragilities at the back and pulled one back but United stormed forward and got two more goals from Bruno who saw his free kick deflected in, and another by Casemiro who thumped in the rebound. Leicester scored the last goal of a pulsating half to make it 4-2, again exposing weaknesses at the back.
The tempo slowed in the second half and Bruno added the only goal in this half to make it 5-2.
Sunday will be a much tougher test but one has to be optimistic that things will improve going forward…sadly for ETH, it had gotten so bad that there was only one way that it would end, and anyone with some footballing sense could smell this coming from essentially the beginning of the season.
Mr Amorim has a massive challenge ahead of him! In the meantime, let us hope that RVN does a good job as interim manager…Numquam Moribimur!
