West Ham 2
Man Utd 1
Those who know me and my love for football will be surprised by this, but I think I am not in love with football anymore. There are multiple reasons for this and the outrageous and obnoxious decision by the VAR team and the so called ref in the 90th minute to award a non existing penalty is yet another nail in the coffin.
United started the match brightly and quite frankly should have been home and dry by HT. Garnacho’s shot early on was off target and as chances continued to be wasted and Dalot shot incredibly wide with an open goal, I just knew what would happen. 0-0 at HT but we should have been 2 or 3-0 up. That will always come back to haunt you.
West Ham got better, United got worse and inevitably went behind. A reaction was seen and Casemiro equalised when Zirkzee’s header was corrected to goal. At this point, United were trying to win it but chances were not being created and at the match seemed heading to a 1-1 draw, we all had to witness one of the most bizarre and obnoxious decisions ever since VAR came around.
How and why the ref was called to see the so called incident already defies belief….and why the ref had to see the incident so many times also. The fact that he decided to award a penalty was simply scandalous and can mean only one of two things. Either the whole VAR team are extremely incompetent and need to be banned, or else the system is corrupt. The ABUs shouting about corruption after every trophy in Fergie’s era seem to have gone underground these days!
Now this was a game that we should have won early on and that we deserved to lose for the chances lost and a mediocre second half…but all that fades into insignificance because the Ref and the VAR team decided to become protagonists.
I had been posting my report rather late recently…for a reason. I was waiting for ETH to be released of his duties, or sacked…it just happened. It was, in my opinion, inevitable, but if anyone thinks that ETH was the main problem, think again. My personal opinion is that player power rules supreme at our beloved club. Unless someone comes in who can take all the decisions and players who act like primadonnas are sent crashing out of the door this sad saga is going to continue. At this stage, I do not know if I really have the energy and will to witness what happens next…I feel very much in the mood of the song American Pie…only this time football has died…Numquam Moribimur!
