Another toothless display as we failed to, once again, make home advantage count and the defence of the FA Cup won last season ends here. The match ended 1-1 after extra time, with Fulham advancing to the quarter-finals with a 4-3 victory in the shootout.

The first half was largely uneventful until the final seconds, when Bassey headed home Andreas Pereira’s corner to give Fulham the lead. Another goal conceded from a set piece – surely there is a solution to this calamity!

It had to be that man Bruno again to provide a spark and equalize in the 71st minute. Dalot provided the assist, cutting the ball back. Note this in your diaries as it is a collector’s item. Dalot passes back 90% of the time – and technically, one could argue that it was a back pass  – but an assist nevertheless.  We had over 20 minutes to score the winner but we barely created a chance!

Extra Time and Penalties

Neither team could find a winner in extra time – as I expected. A penalty shootout, where Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno saved poor penalties from Lindelöf and Zirkzee, condemned our domestic season. Our only interest is now the Europa League and Real Sociedad could potentially make the rest of the season a countdown to end the misery…Numquam Moribimur!
