10-men United beat Ipswich

Man Utd 3

Ipswich Town 2

United managed to edge past Ipswich Town despite being reduced to ten men after Dorgu was sent off for a bad tackle just before HT.

Ipswich took an early lead thanks to a defensive mix-up between Dorgu and Onana which essentially allowed Jaden Philogene to score into an empty net. Not a great start and sometimes I think that these players do not even train together!

United responded in some way or another, and we got level through an own goal from Ipswich captain Morsy in the 22nd minute. Matthijs de Ligt then put us ahead just four minutes later, following up on a rebound after a corner kick to make it 2-1.

And just when you think we should be fine for this one – Dorgu completed a miserable day out when he was sent off for a reckless tackle on Omari Hutchinson just before halftime. Ipswich capitalized on the numerical advantage immediately, with Philogene scoring his second goal in stoppage time to equalize at 2-2.

It was not looking good at this stage, but despite being down to ten men, Maguire proved to be the hero, scoring with a header from a Bruno corner just two minutes into the half. This goal proved to be the winner, as United’s defense held firm against Ipswich’s late pressure.

The victory, our first win in a month, moved us up to 14th in the standings, and more importantly, it is hoped that it can provide a much-needed boost in confidence ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures…Numquam Moribimur!
