Another dismal home performance

Man Utd 0

Spurs  3

Spurs came to OT and what was anticipated as a hard fought game ended up being a comfortable win for Spurs, who never really set any houses on fire but we were so bad that, as usually happens, we made them look good.

Spurs went ahead after just 3 minutes when their defender was allowed to run 50 metres through the defence undisturbed and his cross once again found a totally unmarked player who slotted in. The reaction never really came and I cannot recall the Spurs keeper making a difficult save as we kept giving the ball away. And on 42 minutes Bruno shockingly raised his foot when off balance and was shown a straight red. Yes, I think it was not a red card and that it was a bad decision by the ref and VAR should have reversed the decision but it was yet another poor decision by Bruno who has been pretty abysmal this season. Not that the rest of the players are doing better. Garnacho and Mainoo had little impact and our defence was vulnerable – with Dalot very clearly the weakest link. Spurs added 2 more in the second half and it could have been worse!

Zirkzee is not showing improvement and Rashford…well, let me just say that those United supporters getting all excited about his goals this season against very weak opposition need to calm down. I’ll only get excited when he starts banging them in week in week out. Unlikely to happen.

So ETH finds himself hanging on after just 6 EPL matches – 7 points from 18 and -3 goal difference see us in the 13th place. The clock is ticking and by my calculations if United win the next 4 matches they will still not get to my personal safety net of 20 points after 10 matches, so in my book, ETH has basically come to the end of the road. Not a good start for INEOS but above all, another depressing season looms for us loyal supporters who follow our beloved reds in every possible way we can. I had to watch this match on my mobile somewhere high in the mountains in France and to endure the banter of my 4 travelling companions and see very little effort from the players – makes me think that I made the wrong choice on Sunday…but I simply can’t stay away no matter what…. it’s in my blood…Numquam Moribimur!
