Another defeat – pressure mounting

Man Utd 2

Galatasaray 3

ETH could very well be risking his position if the results do not get better very quickly. United pressed the self-destruct button today – twice allowing Galatasaray to equalise within minutes when we had taken the lead. And then Onana helped Galatasaray by getting Casemiro sent off when trying to recover his horrendous pass outside the box. Icardi missed from the spot but our hapless defence still conceded 3 minutes later.

One step back. We took the lead on 17 minutes after balanced start to the match when Rashford found himself on the right with space available and his cross was headed in by Hojlund. A typical striker goal. Barely 5 minutes later, Galatasaray were back in the game when a simple ball behind our defence saw Dalot being outmuscled by Zaha whose shot somewhat bounced in beyond the reach of the stretching Onana. 1-1 at HT.

United started the second half brightly and we were finding spaces and pinned the Turks into their own half. Hojlund had a goal chalked off for offside (rightly so) but was not to be denied as on 67 minutes he took advantage of a slip by an opponent around the half way line and did it all by himself. A powerful run, showing strength to go past the opponent, and clinical finishing. 2- 1 and all smiles.

And then…we simply pressed the self-destruct button.

4 minutes after taken the lead we allowed the Turks to equalise with more horrendous defending and then Onana gave the game away. His outrageous pass outside the box forced Casemiro to see red and despite the resulting penalty being missed by Icardi, the same player tore through our fragile defence minutes later to win the game for the visitors.

We had good moments today despite too many individual errors but my concern is that this team looks vulnerable. Our keeper and back four were bad today but in their defence, the other players did not provide them with much cover.

With 2 defeats after 2 rounds of the CL it is looking likely that the we will not make it past the group stages and that would be a massive disappointment. The pressure is mounting on ETH. His position was unquestionable a few months ago, but now people are disputing his decisions. I sincerely hope he can turn this round but the gut feeling is that another defeat on Saturday could increase the pressure exponentially.

Let’s hope we see a reaction on Saturday and ETH finds enough courage to make important decisions and drops certain players…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
