Scott on the double

Man Utd 2

Brentford 1

Scott McTominay came off the bench and scored twice in injury time to give United a precious win and some breathing space to ETH before the international break.

It was a dramatic afternoon at OT as a lackluster United seemed heading to yet another home defeat afte an opaque first half was charcaterised by Casemiro, Lindelof and Onana all contributing to gifting Brentford the lead. Apart from the leaking of goals which is currently one of the most worrying aspects of United’s season so far, we once again failed to see a strong reaction from the team.

The expected onslaught in the second half hardly materialised and despite testing the opponent keeper with a couple of shots, Brentford’s defence were not really being made to work overtime to defend their lead as the second half wore on.

ETH threw in Eriksen at HT in place of the sluggish Casemiro who should not really be starting for United on current form. Antony, Garnacho and Martial all came on but the result did not change and we seemed heading towards defeat when ETH decided to introduce Scott as his last throw of the dice. The change gave United 3 points and potentially saved ETHs job.

In the 3rd minute of the added time Scott equalised when he controlled the ball and hit home from inside the box and on the last minute of the added time, United won a free kick. The cross was headed on by Maguire and Scott popped up and headed home sending OT and our local supporters club into a frenzy.

A win that gives all of us some respite from the recent bad results but there are lessons to be learnt and I do hope that ETH has taken note. In my book, Casemiro, Rashford and Mount should not be starting as there are better options. ETH needs to give more space to the youngsters and I sincerely think that they could save his job this season.

To close off, we may have stolen it today, but I am hoping that this gives the team some confidence and belief which are both very clearly missing in the United camp at the moment…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
