United dump Liverpool out of the FA Cup in 7-goal thriller at OT.

Man Utd 4

Liverpool 3

United vs Liverpool matches over the years have included some classics but I doubt very much that we’ll ever see another match with so much intensity and drama.

United started brightly and took an early lead when Garnacho’s shot was saved by the Liverpool keeper and Scott followed through and poked home. Perfect start. Liverpool came back into the match with 2 late goals in the first half goals that could have been avoided. First Marcus got lazy and did not track down the advancing defender and minutes later, Bruno was caught in possession and Salah made it 1-2 in a half in which United gave as much as they got and in which Scott had the chance to make it 2-0. Once again, we managed the match badly. Uphill struggle now, I thought. But there was something in United’s play yesterday that made me hope. We were having a go at them and they did not like that.

As the second half wore on with United trying to get the equaliser but struggling to create chances, ETH sent on Maguire and Antony and it was the latter that scored the equaliser, incredibly, with his right foot! If Antony scores with his right foot, the stars up there are shining in our favour! Surely!!! Marcus should have won it in normal time but missed an incredible chance with the last shot of the 90 mins. Damn!!

And yet Liverpool took the lead in the first half of ET with a deflected shot. I still believed. This United I’m seeing today is not going to give up, I kept telling myself.

15 minutes of ET left to turn this round. Believe. Marcus equalised when put through by Scott who collapsed with cramp after the pass but kept running. And then it happened. Amad who had been sent on by ETH won the ball amd set off running on 120 minutes to support the counter by Garnacho. The impressive Garnacho served him the right ball and I thought Amad let it slip to his left a bit too much but his shot with his left foot squeezed into the right corner. 4-3 and incredible scenes at OT as the place erupted. I had not shouted so much for a United goal for years and was running down the corridor like a mad man!

Amad was sent off for taking his shirt off and getting a second yellow but the boy will be forgiven. If only we had shown this attitude throughout the season! If we played with this mentality I can handle defeats, no problem. Coventry stand in between United and another cup final. 2 matches to save the season….BELIEVE!

In the meantime…..the seven goal drubbing will forever be thrown in our faces, but yesterday the United fans had reason to celebrate… quadruple? I don’t think so…..Numquam Moribimur!
