3 points and not much more

Man Utd 2

Everton 0

United emerged with a merited 3 points in what was, in my opinion, a drab affair at OT. There was very little quality football on display and if one has to make a guess on today’s performances, United will not make top 4 and Everton are going down.

The fact that both United goals came from penalties says a lot about our attacking play. Essentially, two initiatives by the lively Garnacho procured us two penalties and 3 points. Nothing much else happened.

Everton did try to get back into the game but simply lacked any bite going forward. It was nevertheless frustrating seeing United at home being only dangerous on the counter. Equally frustrating is the fact that we give away an annoying number of balls so easily. One can criticise the manager for the style of play and tactics but when it comes to passing the ball to your team mate it’s just lack of quality if your pass goes straight out of play.

United should have got a third penalty but it wasn’t given as we had already had 2 given. How ridiculous, and VAR confirmed no pen!! Scrap VAR I say!

The tempo in the second half was that of a pre season friendly and one gets the impression that some of the players know they will not be there next season. Unless something extraordinary happens, next weekend is going to be tough for the United supporters. Tougher than for some of the players who do not seem to be too keen on putting an extra shift and show some passion.

When a 36 year old is given a standing ovation on his substitution, you just know that the OT crowd are missing the old United…Numquam Moribimur!
