United Held 1-1 by Wolves: 3 Things We Learned

1. Manchester United’s win and performance against Chelsea in the first match of the season was no fluke. United bossed the first half against Wolves at Molineux and despite being denied a win by Neves’s wonder goal, United were still the better team in the second half and could have won the match had Pogba scored from the spot. The way the lads have started this season vindicates Ole’s decision to trust the young players in the team and promises a better season than last. While not everything is perfect, this team can only get better as the new players gel together.  Let’s not forget that Wolves are possibly the best team in the Premiership outside the top six and last season we lost twice against them away from home.

2. Daniel James started the match in the problematic right-wing position and in my opinion, despite his energy and efforts, he did not do enough to make the position his own. I consider Ole’s decision to bring on Mason Greenwood in James’s place at the 88th minute as diabolical. Why do you bring on your best natural goal scorer for just two minutes plus injury time when United desperately needed a goal? The answer to that escapes me but surely, Ole knows best. One thing is certain though. Mason Greenwood deserves a proper chance to claim the right wing position and make it his own. Let’s hope he gets that chance sooner.

3. Wan-Bissaka is quickly turning into a revelation this season. Several players have joined United and despite expectations, took time to find their feet. Others were burdened by their price tag or found it difficult to manage the expectations at Old Trafford. Not Wan-Bissaka. He seems to be unfazed by the opportunity to play for Manchester United. I thought he even improved on his first appearance against Chelsea last week, particularly going forward. I don’t think it’s too early to pronounce myself on this matter. United have not had such a complete right full-back since Gary Neville retired.
