Sheffield United v Man Utd: Man of the Match

Sheffield United versus Manchester United is famous as the being the fixture to produce the first ever Premier league goal. Goals were also bountiful in today’s match. Regrettably our United came away with just one point. With Manchester United having now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 12 top-flight away games, this is the worst streak since a run of 15 in the 1985-86 campaign.

The Blades had one of the best defenses in the league. They had conceded only nine goals in 12 league matches, Leicester being the only team with a better defensive record having conceded just eight goals.

Sheffield United were fortuitous to take the lead when Fleck bundled home in the first half. Manchester United had just one shot in that first half, the fewest they’ve had in the first half of a Premier League game under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Sheffield United doubled their lead in the second half with a shot from well outside the penalty area, a shot that one would have expected the United keeper to keep out.

However three goals in seven minutes from Manchester United gave United a lead that had up till then seemed highly unlikely. Teenager Brandon Williams’ stunning strike gave United hope on 72 minutes and substitute Mason Greenwood tapped home within minutes of coming on to equalize. But with the midfield still seeming to be a problem for Manchester United, with Paul Pogba still injured and McTominay also injured, Sheffield United were allowed to come back in added time to equalize and take a share of the points, VAR allowing the goal.

United have now only won one of their last 11 away games in the Premier League, a record.

In spite of being beaten three times, my man of the match has to be David De Gea who kept United in the match with some excellent saves.
