As the calendar flips to February 2024, the Manchester United Supporters’ Club Malta (MUSC Malta) is gearing up for two days of memorable activities designed to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. Ex Manchester United players David May and Mike Phelan, who has also been the assistant manager for Sir Alex Ferguson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, will be our guests of honour for all these activities.
On Saturday the 3rd of February, the day begins with the opening of the “Munich-Riem, The Journey: Before & After” exhibition at the club premises in Msida at 9.30 a.m., providing attendees with a poignant look back at the events surrounding the 1958 Munich air disaster. The exhibition will showcase rare artifacts and stories from the era of the Busby Babes, with free entrance for all visitors.
The exhibition opening days and times are:
- Saturday 3rd February: Official Opening at 9:30 a.m. and will remain open till 11.00 a.m.
- Sunday 4th February: From 9.00 a.m. till 5.00 p.m.
- Monday 5th February till Friday 9th February: Every day from 6.00 p.m. till 8.00 p.m.
The spirit of community continues with a tree planting event at 11.30 a.m. in Xrobb l-Għaġin, Marsaxlokk, where 65 trees will be planted, symbolizing growth and remembrance. Later in the afternoon, a podcast with audience featuring MUTV hosts Sam Homewood, Helen Evans and David May, with Mike Phelan as special guest will offer insights and entertainment to the fans in attendance. The commemoration continues into Sunday the 4th of February with the Munich Remembrance Mass at 10.00 a.m., marking the solemn memory of the eight Manchester United players and 15 other victims who tragically lost their lives in the Munich air crash. This mass sets a reflective tone for the day’s events.
Post-mass, the club will present mementos to members who have reached the 25th and 50th consecutive years of membership—a testament to the enduring loyalty and passion within the club’s community. The day will also see the launch of the MUSC Malta Hymn, adding a musical tribute to the club’s rich heritage, followed by the unveiling of the MUSC Malta Premises Virtual Tour, offering a digital exploration of the club’s storied home.
A Sunday lunch at the Red Pub offers a gastronomic pause, with roast pork featured as the specialty of the day, alongside a diverse à la carte menu. The activities peak with a live broadcast of the Manchester United vs West Ham match at 3:00 p.m. This viewing event is more than just watching a football game; it’s a gathering of fans united by their passion for the team and the game, all within the friendly confines of the club’s premises in Msida.
