Man of the Match: Everton vs Man Utd (Premier League)

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made two changes from the side that had lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal last Sunday. The Norwegian dropped Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood, the latter missing out through illness. Anthony Martial, back from a 3- match suspension, and Juan Mata, were recalled in their place. United’s 1 – 3 victory means that they have  recorded a seventh straight away win in the league, this being the Reds’ best run for 27 years. As a result, United have moved up to 13th in the table. Everton missed out on the chance to go top after a third loss in a row.

Man of the Match was undoubtedly Bruno Fernandes. His two goals mean that he has now scored 18 goals in all competitions for Manchester United, with his equalising strike today being his first headed goal ever for the club. It was admirable how he continually chased the ball up to the very end, while showing his non-egoistic nature when at the end, with the goal in sight and with a chance for a hat-trick, he laid the ball on to new boy Edinson Cavani to allow the latter to get his first goal for United. Cavani (33 years 267 days old) became the oldest player to score his first Premier League goal since Zlatan Ibrahimovic in August 2016 (34 years 316 days).

United do not play again before Saturday 21st of the month, when they host West Bromwich Albion. However the date is still to be confirmed. Three days later they host Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions league at 9:00 pm, hoping to get revenge for this week’s defeat in Turkey.
