Mainoo winner sees Liverpool off

Manchester United 3

Liverpool 2

This was a tense encounter against our eternal rivals and after a great first 45 minutes, we had to pull ourselves up in the second to grab a winner. Carrick left Amad on the bench with Sesko starting up front again supported by Cunha and Mbeumo.

We had a great start to the match when Cunha’s first attempt was blocked but his second shot off a rebound went in after a slight deflection. The United club erupted as we could not hope for a better start. And it got better! 8 minutes later Sesko made it 2-0 with a bit of a fortuitous goal. We’ll take it thank you very much…2-0 up after 15 minutes was something most of us were not contemplating. Scouse were shocked and if there is one criticism I can make about our first half was that we did not push for the 3rd hard enough. HT 2-0 and cruising  – surely we are home and dry, I kep telling myself.

Well, in the space of 11 minutes inside the second half, we incredibly gifted our opponents 2 goals, First it was Amad who had just come on who gave the ball cheaply away in midfield and our defence backed off. 2-1. Minutes later, our best player against Brentford was possessed with madness for a moment and gifted the opponents a goal. This obsession with passing the ball inside your own box, will keep me moaning about it as it makes no sense in my opinion. 2-2 and my body went numb!

Luckily we picked ourselves up and started going forward with intent and in the 77th minute Mainoo made it 3-2 with a goal that proved to be the winner. Mainoo capped off a great move when he anticipated everyone at the edge of the box and slid the ball in the bottom left corner. Absolute mayhem!

We held on for 3 precious points that confirms our place in the CL. A sigh of relief as I was  seriously thinking that this could end up going either way at 2-2.
