Man Utd 1
FC Copenhagen 0
Two United players who have been under the microscope and have received criticism from many United supporters today gave United the first 3 important points in the CL group.
After yet another lethargic start in front of the OT crowd and a first half that was definitely below par, ETH brought on Eriksen in place of Amrabat at HT and the move worked. United started finding gaps and chances were piling up. Both Rashford and Garnacho were let down by their touch when they had been sent through and the opposing keeper made a great save from Eriksen’s low shot.
It had to be Harry Maguire’s header that finally broke the deadlock. Christian Eriksen provided the cross an Maguire headed in from close range. The last 15 minutes or so saw United not exactly in control and some defensive work and a great save by Onana were needed. And just when the 4 minutes of additional time were over, the unlucky Scott McTominay was judged to have fouled a Copenhagen player in the box and the ref pointed to the spot. Very harsh decision in my opinion.
It was left to Onana to save the day and he did, diving to his left and saving the pen with his outstretched right arm as OT erupted. Harry’s goal and Onana’s save gave us the invaluable 3 points, but I am hoping both players get a much needed confidence boost as we need both of them to perform in the coming weeks. A boost is confidence is definitely needed by Rashford who was again disappointing today. Marcus needs goals but more importantly, needs to improve his decision making.
Big game on Sunday. On current form, we are deffo not favourites but I am hoping that the players rise to the occasion backed by the OT crowd…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
