Bayern hand United third consecutive defeat

United suffered another defeat, this time against a Bayern side that after a quiet initial period during which United were pretty much managing to control what’s happening, were handed a gift by Onana. The shot from outside the box should have been saved. A note to the DDG brigade – he’s not coming back so support our new keeper. He will get better. Bayern quickly made it 2-0 exposing our defensive fragility and I was glad we made it to HT at just 2-0 down.

Højlund gave us hope 4 minutes after the break but then the ref and VAR combined to gift Bayern and Harry Kane a penalty. A dreadful decision. 3-1. United did make it 3-2 through Casemiro close to the 90th minute after risking conceding the 4th a few times and Onana made a couple of good saves. But any hope was soon disintegrated when Bayern cut through our defence again and their teenage sub made it 4-2. Casemiro still found time for his second to make it a respectable 4-3 but it was not enough.

This match confirmed how badly we needed a centre half this summer and the Glazers gave us Evans. Casemiro, despite grabbing a brace, is not managing to protect the weak defence behind him. As for our attack, glad to see Pellistri who I thought was excellent. Now ETH needs to have the guts to drop Rashford for a few matches and play Garnacho on the left. Rashford can have his opportunity when his hunger for the game, his work-rate, and his ability to find a teammate return.

The match vs Burnley on Saturday has increased in importance exponentially. ETH does not need me telling him that only a win will release some of the pressure that is mounting…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
