Chelsea 0
Manchester United 1
Our beloved Red Devils clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea in a hard fought match in which we had that bit of luck needed in such matches. From the opening whistle, Chelsea had some of the better chances, and for long stretches, it felt like we were on the back foot and we were often forced to defend deep. Yet, I could sense that this night was one of grit, resilience, and a spark of brilliance could win it for us.
In that makeshift defense, Heavan was a colossus. Time and again, he threw himself into crucial tackles, snuffing out Chelsea’s attacks. Alongside him, Mainoo in midfield was outstanding breaking up play, and linking defense to attack. How we missed the boy vs Leeds!
And, of course, Bruno Fernandes was instrumental. His pass in the 43rd minute unlocked the Chelsea defense, setting up Cunha’s decisive goal. Yet another assist by the Maestro and I think there is little doubt where the POTS is going.
It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it was a performance of perseverance. From the supporters club here in Malta, I could feel the tension, and when the final whistle blew, the relief was immense. Three vital points in our Champions League quest, and this display of spirit might just be the catalyst we need as the season heads toward its climax.
