We pledged never to forget them, and in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will remember and honour them. The Munich air disaster took away the lives of 23 out of the 44 people who were on board, including Manchester United players Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Duncan Edwards, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Billy Whelan, as well as staff, journalists and crew members. On its third attempt at take-off, flight 609 crashed after a refuelling stop on the Munich runway on the 6th February 1958, with the Busby Babes on board returning from their European Cup match against Red Star Belgrade played in Yugoslavia.
Our club was founded in the aftermath of this tragedy and the Munich remembrance mass has been a tradition that was never missed. We will not let this deadly virus that stunned our world deter us from continuing this tradition of celebrating mass in honour of the victims of the crash. Abiding by the restrictions imposed by the Health Authorities, the maximum number of attendees in view of the size of our club premises is 50 members.
Mass will be said on Sunday 7th February 2021 at 10:00 am at our club in Msida. We invite you to join us in honouring the memory of our beloved Busby Babes.
