Man Utd vs Sheffield United: Man of the Match

United played their first home game in over three months,  when Scott McTominay’s strike from distance had then sealed a deserved 2-0 victory for the Reds in the Manchester derby. Before the start, the Blades were only two points behind United in the Premier League table after losing 3-0 away to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon and the  clash was thus to have a huge bearing on Champions League qualification.

Manchester United had 40,000 fans cheering them on at Old Trafford on Wednesday night – albeit in mosaic form.  It was a first that Old Trafford was full of photos, submitted by the club’s worldwide fan base. Another first ever in the League was the substitution of five players – practically half the team  – all in one go in the 79th minute. The Boss introduced Odion Ighalo, Daniel James, Scott McTominay, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira with Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford and Martial making way.

A more important first was Anthony Martial’s first ever United hat trick, the first United player to hit a hat-trick in the Premier League for seven years. This undoubtedly makes him my Man Of The Match. Said Anthony after the match, “I feel very good. It’s my first hat-trick in my career, so I hope I will score more. I’m happy because the team played very good today so I think it’s good.”

United have now won their last four home games in all competitions by an aggregate score of 13 goals in favor and conceding nil. Manchester United’s next game is at Norwich in the FA Cup sixth round on Saturday. Let’s hope we can keep this good run going.
