Man Utd v Norwich City: Man of the Match

This was Marcus Rashford’s 200th appearance for United and the 22 year old celebrated by scoring twice. The England striker now has 16 goals in his past 20 games for United, together with four assists, 19 goals in the season in total. Marcus must have been dreaming of a hat trick. No United player has scored a Premier League hat-trick since Robin van Persie against Aston Villa in April 2013. However any hope Rashford had of a hat-trick disappeared when he was withdrawn shortly before the hour mark for James, most probably to be rested.

United’s other two strikers also got on the score sheet. Anthony Martial scored a lovely headed goal. He now has as many goal involvements in 22 games in all competitions this season (11 goals, 3 assists) than he had in 38 appearances last term (12 goals, 2 assists). Mason Greenwood got the other, and has now scored four Premier League goals this season, the most by any teenager in the competition. This was the 18 yea old’s ninth of the campaign in all competitions. Only one teenager in Europe’s top-five leagues has scored more goals this season and that’s Jadon Sancho.

My man of the match goes to Marcus Rashford, who not only scored a fine brace but also looked full of confidence throughout his time on the pitch. Special mention must be made of Brandon Williams who is improving with every game. He did miss a sitter just before the hour but was always pushing forward down the left and won a penalty with one such run.

United are now unbeaten in their last nine league games (W5 D4) and move back into fifth place, five points behind Chelsea. United next host Wolves in the FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday evening before travelling to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
