Man Utd v Man City – Man of the Match – Manchester is Red!

So once again the bookmakers got it all wrong. How could United, playing at home, be 4.5 to 1 outsiders to beat City, when City had already lost twice against United this season, losing in the Premier League and League Cup? Was it was because United had lost their last three home games against Manchester City in all competitions? Or because United had not completed a league double over City since Alex Ferguson retired in 2009-10?

In the end United triumphed once again, keeping a clean sheet in the process, thanks to two superb goals, one from Anthony Martial and one from Scott McTominay. United are now unbeaten in their last ten games and have registered the eighth clean sheet as of now in the process. Once again VAR came to United’s rescue, Sergio Aguero’s second-half ‘equaliser’ – ruled out by VAR by the finest of offside margins. This was however the closest the Champions came to scoring as United defended magnificently.

This win leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side just three points behind fourth-place Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.

My Man of the Match is Aaron Wan-Bissaka who controlled all City’s attacks along the flank, keeping Sterling at bay, and would occasionally maraud forward to help Man United’s counter-attacks.

United next go to Austria to meet Lask in the first leg of the Europe League, before a difficult away game to Spurs in the league on Sunday.
