So that’s all folks, for this season. Anthony Elanga’s opener and Juan Mata’s penalty meant that United go into their Europa League final with a win, in second place, and having gone the whole Premier League season unbeaten away from home.
I admire Ole for fielding a much-changed United line-up. This not only showed who his top players are for Wednesday’s match, but also gave the youngsters useful experience, and the second team players an excellent opportunity to show they are worth. Unfortunately not everyone took the opportunity. Brendan Williams had a game to forget. Dan James, apart from an excellent assist for the first goal, was, as the TV commentator put it, ‘woeful’ when clean on goal .
My Men of the Match would be defenders Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe. They dealt with the aerial threat really well apart from making goal-saving blocks. A really sharp performance by both players.
Fingers crossed now that United can win their first silverware under Ole.
