Man of the Match: Luton Town vs Man Utd (Carabao Cup)

Luton Town entered the game having lost just one of 13 games since May, a run which saw them dramatically fight to retain their Championship status. Yet Solskjaer still gave his players the opportunity to prove their worth with 12 days remaining in the transfer window. The Boss  made 10 changes from the side that were beaten 3-1 by Palace on Saturday with only Harry Maguire retaining his place. Full debuts were awarded to goalkeeper Dean Henderson and summer signing Donny Van De Beek.

It was not one way traffic by any means, but with two minutes remaining of the opening period, George Moncur tripped Williams inside the box and Mata made no mistake from the spot.  Since the start of last season, Manchester United have both taken (23) and scored (19) more penalties in all competitions than any other English league side.

Solskjaer turned to Rashford and Greenwood in the closing stages, and both scored to make the score respectable.

My United Man of the Match would be Jesse Lingard. The English playmaker was bright throughout with clever movement, nice turns, and made darting runs through the centre, looking to take people on the dribble. He took up dangerous positions between the lines and established a healthy dynamic with van de Beek. He even came close to scoring.

United will face a trip to Brighton in the fourth round.
