Deserved point at Anfield

Liverpool 2

Man Utd 2

Our beloved red devils started the year on a good note with a spirited display against the EPL leaders. United were not given a chance in hell to get anything out of this game in the pre-match predications but football is not an exact science – and it’s unpredictability is what makes me coming back for more, despite the dire times that the team I support is going through.

We played well as a team, and there were some excellent individual performances as well but my emphasis in this post is on the team spirit. The collective effort was there and when we do play as a team and show determination, we are not as bad as what we have seen so far this season.

We player with 5 at the back, essentially, but never shied away from trying to go forward after the initial 20 or so minutes. We were struggling a bit at that point but eventually we came out and started to play and could have got a goal before HT as we created a couple of good chances.

The second half was more balanced and in one of our attacks, Martinez, one of our centre backs, found space in the box after a great assist by Bruno – the Argentinian blasted the ball into the roof of the next as our club went crazy! sadly, we barely had time to settle down and it was 1-1 – De Ligt sold himself cheaply and once he went to the ground, the Liverpool forward equalised with a good finish. Minutes later, De Ligt got into a pickle again – this time handling the ball in the area – VAR check complete – pen. 2-1 down and at this point I feared the worst. Not this time – the players found the United spirit from somewhere and went looking for the equaliser. Amad sent us all into a frenzy with a merited equaliser and in the last minute of added time, Harry blasted over what would have been as epic winning goal. Zirkzee might have been off – but we will never now.

A positive start to this calendar year – the challenge is of course keeping the motivation high and ensuring that all players on the pitch give 100% – something which we have not seen enough this season…Numquam Moribimur!
