Derby v Man Utd – Man of the Match

Derby had lost their previous eight FA Cup ties against Man Utd, the last meeting had been the third round in 2018. In fact the last time they beat the Red Devils in the competition was in the quarter-final of the 1896-97 campaign!. Derby were hoping that this time round they would progress, considering that they had been strengthened with the signing of former Red, Wayne Rooney. The latter had been United’s record scorer with 253 goals, but had never scored in six appearances against his former side.

In the end Wayne again failed to score against his old  club, mostly thanks to two superb saves by Romero from Wayne Rooney free-kicks and United breezed their way into the quarter-finals with a 3-0 win at Pride Park. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men won courtesy of a fine brace from Odion Ighalo, with Luke Shaw also on target.

My man of the Match is Eric Bailly who continued his fine form of late and gave another classy performance alongside Victor Lindelof. He rarely looked troubled and will be hoping for a start in Sunday’s derby.

United’s next match in the FA Cup is against Norwich City at Carrow Road in the Quarter Finals.
