Back to winning ways

Man Utd 2

Chelsea 1

United fans seem generally satisfied with the performance against Chelsea. At least that is the general feeling I got when scanning social media last night before going to bed. I like to keep my feet on the ground and not get too excited – especially when a win comes against a Chelsea side that is pretty much in the same predicament as our beloved team.

It was obvious from the kick off yesterday that both teams were unable to keep it tight at the back and that the defensive midfielders were not really helping. United were the better team over the 90 minutes, I do not think anyone can deny that, but the amount of individual and tactical errors in that match must have been in the hundreds!

Rather than pointing at individual displays, I was particularly satisfied with the energy and determination shown yesterday – as opposed to the previous match vs the barcodes! But to satisfy those who classify me as a negative person when it comes to United, I honestly thought that our defense and cover was simply not good enough and Chelsea could at least have scored 2 goals in the first half. We could of course had more goals than that as Chelsea were as bad defending.

ETH took off Lindelof at HT and moved Shaw to the centre with Regulion coming on at left back. The change worked – we were better in the second half and after a dodgy first 10 minutes, we started pushing for the winner after we had seen a missed penalty by Bruno, Scott giving us the lead and then we had allowed Chelsea to penetrate through the centre and 3 United defenders did not stop Palmer from shooting in the bottom right corner.

The winner did come – again from Scott after a sublime cross by Garnacho. Given Scott’s scoring form, I would think that he is better playing behind the striker instead of Bruno in this specific moment. Would I play Bruno as one of a defensive duo? – probably worth a try with Mainoo beside him vs Bournemouth!

Let us hope we build more momentum this weekend with a win vs Bournemouth because after that, 2 huge games are coming up, and we will need to tighten up our soft centre against Bayern and Liverpool or otherwise it could be painful to watch…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
