3rd win on the trot for United

FCSB 0

Man Utd 2

United continued with their winning streak with 3 points in Romania – and although there were a few hesitant moments, it was, eventually, a rather comfortable win – something which has not happened often this season. Amorim made a few changes and we seemed once again lacking any bite up front and the first half was pretty much of the same we saw at Fulham last weekend. The HT changes worked though.

Amad and Garnacho started creating danger on the flanks and it seemed a matter of time before United could open up the FCSB defence. On 68 minutes, the much improved Mainoo, playing in an advanced position, made amends for the first half miss when his incursion in the box led to Dalot poking in from close range. 8 minutes later Mainoo himself made it 2-0 from a Garnacho assist – game over. FCSB had nearly equalised in between the United goals – when a fierce shot hit the woodwork – a little luck always helps.

A good second half, in which we should have scored more goals – and we probably would have, if we had a decent striker. Sadly, none of our striker options are up to scratch and if I were Amorim I would give the youngster Obi-Martin a chance.

The Europa League is looking as a possible avenue to revive a dismal season. I am not sure I got it right but it seems our position in the final group stage classification allows us to avoid certain teams until the semis. There are some good signs showing occasionally but there is always the danger of going back to square one – just like we did with Brighton. I have noticed some improvement in the form of players like Martinez, Mainoo and Garnacho of lately. Hope this continues and we start gaining some points in the EPL starting from Sunday against Palace…Numquam Moribimur!
